THURSDAY 26TH NOVEMBER -THE
LOPINOT EXPERIENCE TOUR
Duration: 5 hours
Capacity: 10 persons minimum / 60 persons maximum
Delve into the lore of a lush valley in
Trinidad’s scenic Northern Range.
A picturesque drive along the serpentine Lopinot Road will bring you to Lopinot Valley, a tranquil village surrounded by forested foothills. Once a cocoa and coffee estate, the village bears the name of French Planter, Compte de Lopinot, who established the plantation in the early 1800s.
According to local folklore, on windy, dark nights the Compte de Lopinot appears, dressed in military regalia and riding a black horse, to roam the landscape.
Today, visitors to the historical site can explore remnants of the Compte’s Great House, along with a cocoa house – a building with a retractable roof used for drying cocoa pods – and the heritage park. There is also a museum at the site. Scattered along the route are cocoa plantations and one of the featured stops will be Mariposa Café Restaurant, a village restaurant and cultural archive, where you can sample the area’s Spanish influenced heritage. Experience the sweet Parang Music native to this area and sample the traditional “Pastelle” dish and “Sorrel” drinks both indigenous to the Spanish culture and widely prepared as part of local Christmas fare. The experience continues at the Lopinot River herb and seasoning farm where you can see fresh water fishes such as tilapia, coscarob and guabin in their natural habitat. You are also invited to enjoy the ‘scentsation’ of the aromatic smells of fresh local seasonings.
Please note
1. A stocked cooler will be on each Tour vehicle containing bottled mineral water and local fruit
juices. ( Napkins and straws provided)
2. Tour Trivia – A prize of a locally weaved Hammock.
